University Club Scholarship Program

University Club members have been making generous donations to the University Club Scholarship since the fund was established in 2003. Each student will be awarded $1000 towards their fall semester at Indiana University. The students and their achievements were recognized this fall during a special luncheon on October 5, 2021 in the University Club.

The fund continues to thrive thanks to your continued support.

I am from Fishers, IN and I study Criminal Justice and Psychology. I am deciding between going directly into graduate school for Forensic Psychology or taking a few years off of school to work beforehand. I eventually want to get a doctorate in Forensic Psychology. In my free time, I have lately been spending some time researching the theory of consciousness and other topics in philosophy. I also love to garden, go to thrift shops, and I am always looking for ways to reduce my carbon footprint. In the IMU, I work as an Assistant Building Manager. I consider myself extremely lucky to have this job because I value the way I have been encouraged to find my strengths and to work on my weaknesses as a person. I cherish the connections I’ve made while working in the Union and I feel honored to be able to introduce prospective students and visitors to our beautiful campus.

I am so grateful to receive this scholarship! This is a very special opportunity for me.

As a student at Indiana University, I am majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Music. As I approach my senior year of undergraduate studies, I will begin student teaching in both Indiana and Australia. I am involved with several education associations currently and plan to spend time teaching prior to pursuing a graduate program. Most of my time is spent finding Bloomington’s best scenery with my dog and working to pay for my degree. This scholarship provides financial security so that I can pursue my studies in a way that will prepare me for me future.

I am the middle of five children in my family and the second child to go to IUB so far! I began working at the IMU in my freshman year. Besides balancing work and school, I go to the gym 5-6 times a week to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I am part of the LGBTQ+ community. I expect to graduate Spring, 2020, and plan a future as an educator to encourage the next generation of students to reach their goals.

Thank you so much for choosing me as recipient for the IUB University Club scholarship this year! This scholarship validates the dedication to my work at the IMU. I will be using this money directly to pay for classes and other expenses related to my education. I am grateful to the donors of this scholarship and intend to utilize this money effectively. This financial assistance will be great benefit to me as it was to my older brother who also received this scholarship.

I am a junior studying biology with a chemistry minor and plan to graduate Spring, 2020. My future goals are to go to dental school and become a dentist specializing in treating children. Applying to dental schools is quite expensive. Most students have to take out loans just to apply and take the DAT exam. This scholarship will let me focus more on pursuing my dreams than thinking about where I will need to get the money to pay for all the things I need.

Thank you 100 times over to the donors of this scholarship. Donors are stepping stones for students to achieve their aspirations, and no amount of gratitude could repay that.

Compared to some other Big Ten Clubs we are a relative newcomer to raising funds for scholarships. However, once established by the University Club Board of Officers in 2003, we’ve made tremendous progress. For several years now we have be able to award $1,500 scholarships to three outstanding students who work at the IMU. Funds are generously donated by members of the University Club; the Indiana University Foundation handles the funds. Due to your continued support the fund currently has over $43,000 in the endowment!

Ruth Albright, Member of the Scholarship Committee, presented three $1,500 scholarships to students Kirsten Hawley, Lucas Corley and Michaele Ullrich at our Annual Membership Meeting on April 25, 2016, furthering our efforts to foster collegiality among our members and the campus. To be eligible, students must plan to return to campus for future study, must take a minimum of 12 hours of academic work, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5, work in the Indiana Memorial Union, and have exemplary work records.

Along with Scholarship Chair Suzanne Phillips, the entire University Club Board of Directors would like to thank everyone who donated to the 2015 – 2016 scholarship fund. We are proud of our club and the tremendous support of our members in this very worthwhile effort. Please join us in reaching out to the most important segment of our IU community, our students. Thank you again for your generosity.
